I hunger for a breath I cannot take
My heart’s last beat, it falters in my chest,
My consciousness slips, never again to wake,
One Life–my soul–it finds its final rest,
But microbial life expands and grows inside,
restoring life that hungers to survive,
And fills the void where soul did once reside,
And all my cells unnaturally revive,
My body stands, it turns, it looks, it walks,
A mouth so empty, needing, seeking life,
Chin left, chin right, infected eyes do stalk,
A body warm stands strong. Was she my wife?
Infected eyes see only flesh and blood,
Infected eyes are emptied by her gun.
