He touched her arm and led her out the door
And by the hand he led her to his car.
They drove away, a night of love in store,
And I alone stood watching from afar.
She curled in his arms and he did warm
Her shoulders, hands, and most of all her heart.
Around those two, the smiles forever swarm;
And I alone stand watching from afar.
He kneeled for her and held aloft a ring.
Engaged they now prepare a date to start
A marriage that will not but gladness bring.
And I alone will stand and watch from far.
A solitary soul, my eyes now burn,
Because I acted not when heart did yearn.
